So...another hiatus from blogging responsibilities, but this time I have an excuse. I went a lovely vacation with Emily to Chicago where we met up with our friends Sam (an Abraham Lincoln scholar) and Clint (a guy I know).
A good time was had by all with plenty of wonderful, relaxing moments. The weather was perfect. The conversation was lively. The food was fantastic. The museums were wonderful. I couldn't have asked for a better time.
I don't have much to say about it. There were too many of those "you had to be there moments" for my trip to translate to people who were not there. I can't really put you in that seat next to me at Giodarno's when Sam went into this odd vaudeville accent to talk about JD Drew and Jayson Werth's plan to fake a back injury so they can go fishing. Or understanding our struggle to find a public bathroom in the hippie section of Chicago (called Damen) so Clint won't piss himself. Or the uneasiness of seeing a drunken thug who was rubbing witchhazel on this face threaten his seatmate on the L. And the feeling of being so close to that famous Seurat masterpiece you can kiss it, then forget to take a fucking picture of it (but remembering to take photos of American Gothic and Nighthawks). Yeah, yeah, I'm a writer and learning how to write so I should be able to do that and provide you with more context and scene and story and goodtimes. I guess I'm just not in the mood. I can say I had a good time, I can say that. And if you get a chance to go to Chicago, I hope you have as good as luck as I did. Nothing's finer than a low 80's day with a gentle lake breeze and walking down the lake shore from the Field Museum to the Art Institute. Water as blue as sapphires and the boats bobbing as if rocked by a caring mother.
For whatever reason, blogger seems to be restricting me to one photo at a time, so here's one of Millenium Park. I don't know what that giant silver bean thing is, but it's there and people seem to love it.
VIVA EL MUSTACHE!
