I know, I know, another goddamn NYC thing. I'm sorry. I swear, I'm running out of pre-visit stuff and I'll be hitting the post-visit stories soon enough.
Anyway, Danielle threw out an invite to go see the movie The Business of Being Born. Okay, seems interesting, schedule willing, I'd go. Seems like it would be a tough one to eat popcorn through, but that's okay.
I did some digging into what independent movie theaters are in Manhattan, and I found two of note (besides the IFC Center, where Danielle's movie is playing...though I can't seem to figure out if that movie will be there when we all get to NYC): Angelika New York and the Village Cinema East. There are some interesting movie options to be found at both, let me give you the previews in wonderful YouTube quality (by the way, I'm only giving the previews to movies I'd like to see, others may be playing)
Village Cinema East:
Before the Devil Knows Your Dead (nude Marisa Tomei...I consider this bra research for Jorge)
Teeth (two words describe this movie: vagina dentata)
Angelika New York (now, these movies can be seen in Minneapolis, so this may not be worth the trip)
Persepolis
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
The Savages
What do ya think?

I want to see those first two movies. That Teeth one reminds me of another movie...is it a remake...or maybe it reminds me of a past relationship.
And a nude Marisa Tomei? I'm so there.
Before the Devil Knows You're Dead is excellent and worth your time. It's at the Hopkins $3 theater by my place and I'd like to see it again, if you want to swing up for the 4:20pm tomorrow afternoon.
The other Philip Seymour Hoffman pic, The Savages, looks to be at the Landmark Cinema in Edina for a few more weeks, if you want to trek up for that one, too. I haven't seen it, yet.
