Better-Than-Average Thunder

I'm not sure how much I can say regarding what's scheduled for Good Thunder 11/20/08, or what kind of clumsy allusionistic links I can make without being too direct. However, since I will be out of Mankato when that person roles along...I'm, well, I'm something all right.

Good for you who get this treat next year. At least it wasn't some kind of Barry Hannah/Richard Russo event, otherwise I'd be pretty pissed. Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm real fucking jealous, but it's cool for the university and the program. I guess my reaction could be summed up as: "Goddammit...congratulations."

Maybe he'll Joyce-Carol-Oates it and read directions off a Betty Crocker cake mix box or something. I hope not. No, seriously, I do hope he reads a particular titular story involving this. And doesn't crap the bed where it turns out I won't miss anything special....I don't hope that at all.

On an unrelated note...have any of you read any of those dog books, like Marley & Me or another of those books about life with dogs, or, failing a dog book, read a few books starring vampires? I'm fishing for a comment about all the typical elements contained within one of those type of books. I got an idea for something for Writer's Bloc and I'm looking for an assist.
