Friends,
Today, my dad, Nathon Edward Johnson, Jr. turns 56 years old. Yes, I spelled his name correctly, it has an O instead of an A in that penultimate letter slot.
Fun fact about my dad...he was the first of my Johnson family to be born in my hometown of Granite City, Illinois. His older siblings, which include my frightening-to-this-day Aunt Connie, were born in Dover, Tennessee. The way I understand the story, the Johnson family moved north when Granite City opened the Steel Mill, and actually quite a few people from Dover, Tennesee moved to Granite City. I don't know what was so special about Dover that caused this move, but I know it happened.
Anyway, click here to read some other fun facts about the year of 1952 (when my dad was born). Or, if you prefer, click here to read about fun facts about the date March 9.
My dad's a big Patsy Cline fan, so here's a video of Patsy singing "Walking After Midnight." I remember cringing horribly when being forced to listen to this twangy music, but now, anymore, I don't have such a strong reaction against it. In fact, I like Patsy Cline anymore...at least this song. However, the other video I'm putting up here of his other favorite musician, Randy Travis, I still can't quite enjoy. His favorite song by Travis is "Diggin Up Bones" but I couldn't find a video of it on YouTube, so I'm going with something different.
Patsy Cline - Walking After Midnight
Randy Travis - Forever and Ever
And to close, here's the one picture of him I could dig up on my computer of him. It was taken at my wedding, and I'm sorry for the quality. And, you know, upon looking at the picture, you might understand where the genesis of the mustache-love came from:
Happy birthday, dad.
