James Frey has a new book out and the NY Times gave it a loving, and overly stylized, review. However, it says that the book is about Los Angeles. I will not read this book. Maybe I have some intense Midwest bias, but any book that says its about New York or Los Angeles I automatically don't care about it. You feel the same way, or have another instant turn off with books?
Here's Local H expressing, in alt-rock form, how I tend to feel about these books and such.

If the language of the review is meant to hook readers by offering a loving tribute to the book, it worked the opposite on me. I thought the review was obnoxious to read.
Me too! I was really turned off by that review. i haven't read anything by Frey, but according to what I've heard, I think they were apeing his style with that review.
