Friends,
If you were to rank to Top 5 love stories of all time, either in literature or film, what would they be?
I don't have a list, and I'm curious what is out there in this "genre." And by love story, I don't mean romcoms, or fluffy junk either. But take a movie like Sweet Land...now that's on my Top Five though I have four other slots to fill.
Anyway, whats on your list?

The Crow. Definitely number one.
1. Brokeback Mountain, film and story
2. The Lover, a novel by Marguerite Duras--a French teen girl from an impoverished family, a wealthy older man from North China, theirs is taboo love story set in 1930's Indochina.
3. The love letters exchanged between Abelard and Heloise--you can find their letters here:

4. Gone with the Wind, film and novel
5. The Giant's House, a novel by Elizabeth McCracken. It's the story of a 30-year-old librarian who's falling in love with a 14-year-old boy who grows to be over eight feet tall. This is one of the strangest--and in spite of its zany premise--most sensitive and beautiful love stories in contemporary fiction

And my honorable mention:
Truth and Beauty by Ann Patchett. It's Patchett's memoir detailing her friendship with the writer Lucy Grealy whose own memoir Autobiography of a Face is pretty amazing.

The Winners: (random order)
--Brokeback Mountain, Proulx (story... Diana agrees)
--The Dead, Joyce (story... shit, I was jealous of that Michael Furey too)
--Back to the Future (film...George McFly and Lorraine... part where George McFly lays out Biff's ass still gives me chills)
--As Good as it Gets (film...kiss my ass, the part where Jack Nicholson cries over losing the dog breaks my heart)
--"Pet Milk," Dybek (story...I was going to say "We Didn't" but the naked dead lady on the beach kind of turns me off a little bit)

Honorable Mentions:
--Paradise Lost (the last part)
--Streetcar Named Desire (Stella!)

Can Lick My Nuts:
--The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks
I forgot one.
"In Ruth's Country" by Rick Bass.
1. Once, platonic but will make you weep
2. Sweet Land, just plain sweet
3. A Farewell to Arms, another tear-jerker
4. High Fidelity, real behavior of both douchey man and cunty woman
5. Brokeback Mountain, the story more than the film, I could feel the love more in the print version
wow, I have a few that I enjoyed. I do not have a favorite but I do have a Top 5.
P.S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern
Brokeback Mountain (I didnt want to read the book nor see the movie but I was told by brother that it was a good book, so I read it and thought it was well done. Still have not seen the movie)
August Rush (newer, but very well written. I actually read the book based off the movie after seeing the movie..)
High Fidelity (Nick Hornby rocks)
The Losers Club: Complete Restored Edition! by Richard Perez
Not a big fan of "love stories", really, but here goes.
1. Magnolia
2. Good Will Hunting
3. Punch Drunk Love
4. Amelie
Can't think of a fifth, so I'll just go with High Fidelity.
