Friends,
Got my first neat score from that used book store in Madison on State Street. I found an autographed copy of William Matthews first book of poetry, Ruining the New Road. And I think that it might be first edition. It says first printing inside the book, so I don't know if that's the first printing for the paperback copy, or if it is the first printing of the book, and it doesn't say first edition, which is different. (After a little poking on Amazon, apparently there was a hardcover version of this book, so what I have isn't the coolest it could be, but its still a might fine of MFA neatness I think.) Anyway, the book was autographed in 1979, so says the date, and is directed to Paul Zimmer, who is also a poet. Another note, it is signed as Bill Matthews, but that is also how his name appears on the back of the book, so I don't think its faked. I paid 15 dollars for this book, but I think its worth it. William Matthews was one of the poets for my comps, and I really enjoy his work. So, I figured shelling out the dough for this worth it.
I spied a couple other cool books at that bookstore as well. Hopefully they will be there when I get paid so I can get them. Madison is looking up.

I just finished a great book you might want to read, "Used and Rare: Travels in the Book World" by Nancy & Lawrence Goldstone. The story starts out as they start collecting books kind of by accident. It's a good read from a story standpoint but also educational, as they learn about the dofference between first editions and first printings, what makes a book more collectible, etc.
