Bad Music Sunday: iSuck

Friends,

Emily said to me, "Hey, Bryan. You should do a Bad Music Sunday for all the bad music on the iTunes." At first I was aghast; how dare she suggest I own bad music. Me, of all people. Then I got to thinking about the songs I bought to make Natalie those bad 80s mix discs, plus the regular bad music I've collected for some reason, and the bands that I liked at one point and now have grown to know better. So, yeah, there's plenty of crap on my iTunes, so here's a taste. And, I'm not going to offer any defense or explanation for these songs. They are currently on my iTunes, for good or ill (probably because I've never gotten around to deleting them...or maybe I'm afraid to delete them because what if my tastes shift?).

Crowded House - Don't Dream It's Over

Deftones - Seven Words

Electric Light Orchestra - Don't Bring Me Down

Everclear - AM Radio

A Flock of Seagulls - I Ran (So Far Away)

Fun Lovin Criminals - Scooby Snacks

Human League - Don't You Want Me, Baby?

Michael Sembello - Maniac

Saves the Day - At Your Funeral

Steve Miller Band - Fly Like an Eagle
This one's for you Seth & Erin

I have a favor to ask of you. You may reject this request--no hard feelings--but should you accept it, you will have my eternal love and gratitude.

Want to make a mix tape (CD) we can play at the book launch party? Bad music we can dance to! Good music we can dance to! Lots of Prince, Madonna, and yes, that song you featured today about the chick who was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar as well as the one about pouring some sugar on me in the name of love.

Are you up for this? It's a small way to have you there.

There is no reason 7 Words should be on BMS. Absolutely no reason at all.

I'm disappointed that you own a Saves The Day song. I'm more disappointed that you actually paid for it.
Now, on to my objections: I Ran? I mean, I know it's a cliched song and everyone makes fun of it, but I actually dig it.
ELO? Come on, man.
AM Radio: Ok, I can see this. But I have a soft spot for Everclear for some reason. And the video is interesting, at least. That smiley face kinda freaks me out, though.

I'm going to have to back Jorge up on the Flock of Seagulls song. It's a corny, crappy-ass video, but the song is catchy. A little heavy on the synthesizer, but otherwise good. It's hard, but you have to divorce the song from the video.

Diana: Absolutely. You only want one?

Dan: I had a moment of doubt about 7 Words. I was going to put The Passenger on there first, but, you know, I'm just not that angry anymore I suppose. I understand your objection, and it is noted.

Jorge & Ande: C'mon. It is a really is a bad song. It's about 2 minutes too long, that guy has bad voice, but not bad-interesting like Tom Waits, and the song, I guess, has something to do with the aurora borealis but I'm not sure that guy singing know what that is. I understand why you guys like it. And I understand that it's cliche not to like it, it's the go to "Oh-my-god-the-80s-were-so-bad" song so I know it has been unfairly kicked around by a fair number of VH1-caliber celebrities. But suck is suck. And this, sucks.

Look, pipsqueak, you make as many mixed tapes as you deem necessary. I have one request: However many you decide to make, will you put George Clinton's "Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof Off the Sucka)" on each? Please?
