Depressing News

Friends,

I'm still awaiting The Mitchell Report, and this post doesn't have anything to do with that...though I did see a preliminary list that has got me nervous...but here's something else to make you sad.

Terry Pratchett has Alzheimer's.

I haven't read a lot of Pratchett's work...in fact only one book, but he is the definition of prodigious. Next time you find yourself in Barnes & Noble, walk over to the fantasy section and just look at the number of books this guy cranks out. It's James Patterson like production. That's not exactly a glowing compliment, but Pratchett is funny. His fantasy books are fantastical comedies, most of which fall are in the Discworld series, and that's what makes it a feat to me. To be productive is one thing, but to be consistently funny is a whole other ballgame. His brand of humor is close to Douglas Adams', but note that Adams only produced a small number of books in his lifetime, especially in comparison to Pratchett.

The one book of his I read: Good Omens. I guess it wasn't fully his as Neil Gaiman co-wrote it with him, but this book is a hilarious read. Not as funny as Lamb, but good just the same.

Here's the synopsis for Good Omens, taken directly from Amazon.com:
The world will end on Saturday. Next Saturday. Just before dinner, according to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies written in 1655. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing and everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.

Viva el mustache...y viva investigación de la célula de vástago curar Alzheimer's!
