History Lesson

Friends,

On this day in history in 1776...Washington crossed the Delaware. He was in retreat at this time, so we remember this a little more patriotically than the circumstances probably were, but it's a kick ass painting...which is housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art...so I know one more think I'll be seeing while in NYC. On a related note, today I read an essay from one of my students about the Sarah Vowell essay "Partly Cloudy Patriot," and in that essay, my student says she didn't know that the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776. Hm.

Also on this day, 27 years ago, John Lennon was murdered by born-again Christian Mark David Chapman.

Here's some Lennon videos:

Yer Blues (from the Rolling Stones Rock N Roll Circus...this song features Keith Richards on bass, Mitch Mitchell on drums, and Eric Clapton on guitar...as a band they were called Dirty Mac)

Give Peace a Chance

Also, three years ago, Dimebag Darrell was killed on-stage by some crazy gunman. He was the guitarist for Pantera. Here's a link to Pantera's one popular song.

Bad day for a revolution, bad day for rockstars.
