Were any of you aware that Wise Blood was made into a movie in 1980? I think I might have known that, but I thought it was some second rate production, but turns out that's not the case. It was made by John Huston (the guy who did The Maltese Falcon, Chinatown, fathered Anjelica Huston who would eventually kiss Dorothy Allison). It stars Brad Dourif (you probably know him best as Wormtongue from the LOTR movies) as Hazel Motes and Harry Dean Stanton as Asa Hawks.
This movie doesn't appear to be available on DVD and you can only get it on used VHS tapes, and even if it isn't all that great, I still think it would be worth seeing. And some people do seem to like it quite a bit, as it has a high IMDB rating, and this academic sounding page touts how the faithful the movie is to the source material.
So really, what this all comes down to is...who's going to buy this for me?

Harry Dean Stanton!?! Any movie he's in is worth watching multiple times (i.e. Repo Man).
We tried to watch this film in Diana's Southern Women Writers class. At about 10 minutes, the video clip stopped loading. And then we sat around and watched Mean Kitty and Charlie Bit Me videos.
Also, we defined the words "punky."
It was pretty frustrating. I'd still like to see it.
Bryan, have you ever seen the movie "Billy Jack"?
I have never seen Billy Jack. I've heard a little about it, but never seen it. It's one of those ass-kicker 1970's movies, right? Along the lines of Walk Tall, or whatever that Buford Pusser movie was called.
