Bad Music Sunday Vol. 3: Cover Songs

Here's another edition of Bad Music Sunday, this time highlighting some of the worst attempts to cover a song. Here you go, and enjoy if you can. There's a few more videos that usual here this time...hope you don't mind. I will say that this list is by no means definitive, so feel free to share some of the worst cover songs in the comment section Also, next week on Bad Music Sunday...celebrity music.

Madonna - American Pie


Britney Spears - Satisfaction
A few things...first this video has nothing to do with the song, but it was the only one I could embed that had the whole song...also note that she is isn't bemoaning her not getting no girlie action


Oh, I would put Jessica Simpson's "version" of Nancy Sinatra's These Boots Are Made for Walking here, but I think I made my point about songstresses and their inability to cover good songs.

Rod Stewart - Ruby Tuesday
Rod the Bod has pretty much traded in what was left of his respectable career to be a lounge singer...but this version of Ruby Tuesday is pretty damn bad. I nearly put The Revolting Cocks version of Do Ya Think I'm Sexy on here, but to be honest, it kind of grew on me in its badness.


Mr. Big - Baba O'Riley
Some songs you just don't cover...especially if you're Mr. Big. I like that they start out this song with a psyche out on a Van Halen cover...they were doing a pretty competent job at that one though...probably shouldn't have changed it.


Tom Jones - Black Betty
He has all kinds of embarrassing cover songs out there but this one is especially interesting to me since he dedicates it to Leadbelly. I do recommend searching out his version of EMF's early alternative music staple Unbelievable...it's a sight to behold.


Metallica - Turn the Page
The Ghost of Nostradamustache believes that out of all the songs recorded that Bob Seger would be the worst music to be raped to. Now, what about a Metallica cover of a Bob Seger tune? Also, this band butchers the traditional Irish song Whiskey in the Jar.


Van Halen - Pretty Woman
Okay, as far as cover songs go, maybe this one isn't the worst...but just look at this video. Seriously...try to comprehend how it was decided that this was the best way to do this music video. Oh, go on, try to blame cocaine, but it has to be something much deeper than just coke for someone to think that a glammed-up, androgynous Napoleon saving a woman from a dwarf makes any sense.
