Genesis Chapter 60, Verse 6

Friends,

Pitchers and catchers report today. Hallelujeh! Today is truly one of the true high holidays of life, next to of course, Opening Day, and baseball's Hanukkah, The World Series.

To celebrate this day, here's some baseball centric videos and links:

Stan Musial Footage

People tend to forget how truly amazing Stan Musial was. Here's a quote pulled from the bio of Stan's from his website that will probably give you an idea of how dominant he was:
Upon retirement, Musial held 17 major league, 29 National League and 9 All-Star game records.

He tends to get lost behind the Yankee greats, and our modern exuberance for crowning people from our era as great, but Musial was phenomenal. And still alive and kicking too, making him, in my opinion, the greatest living ballplayer, and he still shows up at Cardinal home games sporting a red blazer and a smile that could cure clinical depression.

Baseball poetry from The Poetry Foundation and baseball poetry and music from the Baseball Almanac, which features some of the work by the voice of the Cardinals, Jack Buck. While that poetry may not have been his forte, he made up for it as a natural play-by-play announcer. I actually get teary-eyed when thinking about Jack because he was pert near family. I don't know how many games I listened to him broadcast, probably a couple hundred on KMOX, 1120 on your AM dial (yes, you can get KMOX up here in Minnesota...though they no longer broadcast Cardinal games because of their current good-for-nothing management) but he's certainly part of my baseball DNA. It's hard to imagine myself as a kid, growing up loving baseball, and not imagining Jack Buck's voice along with it.

Jack Buck's 9-11 Poem

Opening Day just can't get here fast enough. I know the Cardinals will suck this year (Pujols needs Tommy John surgery, Ankiel will be the Opening Day center fielder, and we have Joel Pinerio in the rotation). Gonna be an ugly year on the diamond, but just the same, I'm anxious.
