Friends,
Cubs Fans, please make sure you read the post below this one...concerns your team's history.
Anyway, another day, two more schools officially said YES for Emily. Here's how it breaks down now...
The Yes:
Simmon College
Denver University
University of Wisconsin
University of South Carolina
University of Southern Mississippi
The Silent:
University of North Carolina
Louisana State University
The No:
University of Michigan
Clearly, the University of Michigan has some issues with evaluating talent. The mess with the University of North Carolina has been cleared up, so we're waiting on word from them. Now, LSU is another ball of gumbo.
See, I don't have much faith in a department that's supposed to teach records management if they can't manage their own goddamn records. Shortly after Emily sent in all her application material, LSU sent her an e-mail about missing stuff, but the e-mail was addressed to Elizabeth Johnston. Emily replied back saying, hey, not me. They sent her another Elizabeth Johnston e-mail, and Emily had to call them to get it fixed. A week ago, she checked to see what the holdup was on why she hasn't heard anything from them, and it turns out the graduate school says they don't have her transcripts...which she mailed off months ago. She calls around, come to find out that the MLIS department had misfiled her transcripts (put them under her maiden name), and for what the graduate school did with their copies is beyond me. But, we think we have that straightened out (the MLIS program will give copies to the graduate school...they said they would call if it was a problem, and they haven't called...but that doesn't mean there isn't a problem).
Which school is in the lead? Last I heard, Simmons, but that could change if we start getting funding letters. Wisconsin has always been an appealing choice because its proximity, and that to get into the archives department, you needed a history background (which none of the other schools required). Oh, and did I mention it was close.
Now, the requiste YouTube videos concernings schools who said yes....
First, Univeristy of Wisconsin, located in Madison is the current home to Clyde Stubblefield, the drummer on many of James Brown's finest hits (like Say It Loud I'm Black and I'm Proud, and Cold Sweat). It is also, curiously, home base for this modern rock band:
It's because Butch Vig , one of the best alternative rock producers, is a Madison resident.
Other Madisoners of note...Frank Lloyd Wright, Bradley Whitford (that's Josh Lyman on West Wing), Chris Farley, Phil Hellmuth, and future Bad Music Sunday honoree Nick Hexum of the band 311. Oh, and maybe one day Ben Drevlow will get mentioned alongside them.
As for the University of South Carolina, located in Columbia, it is home to the following former REM cover band turned 90s phenom, and potential future Bad Music Sunday honoree...
Other famous Columbians include Kristin Davis, Young Jeezy, future Bad Music Sunday honoree Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20 and the poet/novelist James Dickey. Also, according to Wikipedia, Columbia is the home of Michael J. Lynch who is taking credit for inventing the exclamation point after an argument with a communist (so, I assume this argument took place prior to the 1400s...you know, when communism was a real problem in South Carolina).
I'll keep you posted when I know more.
