Friends,
As Auntie Shrew says in The Secret of NIMH, "The frost is off the ground and moving day is at hand." Today, Emily & I finished boxing up all of our books, and we are planning the next round of boxed materials. We need to bring up things from our storage closet, namely our other large plastic tubs for things like blankets, towels, pillows and such. It's really starting to feel depressing as boxes are multiplying like Tribbles, taking the place of bookcases, which have been reduced to piles of pressboard.
I will send out an e-mail call for hands sometime soon, maybe later today if I get around to it, but here's the plan as it stands.
On Friday, July 18th (time to be determined, but probably probably earlish, depending on when I can get the truck) we will have a U-Haul, and this is the day of packing the truck. Our little version of moving our brick to the lee of the stone. I'm not going to sugar coat this. We live on the third floor. Some of our boxes are heavy. Some of the furniture is awkward. And we don't have a team of talking rats with a pulley system to help. But, we will have use of a dolley, so there's no reason to go breaking backs or dropping a nut trying to lift a too-heavy box. You are all big strong women and men, you don't have to prove it to me. Let's save the feats of strength for a Festivus celebration. And for the furniture, well, the shit got in here, so the shit can get right back out again. Also, for your trouble, you will be handsomely rewarded.
The way I figure, if you're helping carry all this stuff, or helping clean the joint, then we're going to feed you well and we're going to give you plenty to drink. Then, after we eat, after we shower up, relax our bones and muscles, I saw we, as a moving party, go take in a show of The Dark Knight if possible. It opens on July 18th. Then, after what I'm sure will be a great movie (see the trailer below if you don't believe me) then we retire to a bar to tie one on to put a nice little ribbon on Mankato, because the next day, July 19th, I will be driving the packed up U-Haul to Madison, WI and moving into my new apartment for another day of lifting and carrying to be followed by a night of arguing over where this thing, or that, goes. Oh yeah. Moving, baby...gotta love it.
So...who's in to help on the 18th?

I plan on having that day off work, so I can volunteer whatever strength I have left after 7 years of limited physical activity.
If I do end up having to work that day, I will get off at 12:30, so I can help if the moving doesn't start until later that morning or if it just takes that long to move everything out and down the steps.
Moving, movie, and bar--sounds like like a plan. I'm in.
Boo! I will be in Colorado on your moving day, but I want to see you and Emily once more before you leave.
I'm meeting with Candace on the 18th, so I can help until 12:45.
I like how Tom's meeting days happily coincide with people's moving days. Anyway, I'm in.
