Friends,
Many of you like movies, so do me a favor. Tell me a movie where the phrase "let me explain" was used by a guy character to an upset girl, and the movie was still good.

40 Year Old Virgin
Ah, yes. The Shining. Way to think out of the box. And the 40 Year Old Virgin is okay, a little too long, but yeah, it's enjoyable.
For some reason, I keep hearing Dustin Hoffman's voice in my head saying "Let me explain" to an distraught lady. Is that in Tootsie or something?
What prompted this post was that Emily rented 27 Dresses from the library and it dawned on me that I think, in every romcom, a man will say to a frazzled woman, "let me explain." 40 Year Old Virgin is a romcom that has it. Don't all of them?
It was horribly formulaic. I thought it would be funnier and have a better plot. Foolish me. Can anyone think of a decent romcom with a good plot or are they all doomed to formula and cliche?
The Crow was a pretty good romcom.
Waitress
For Emily's question, not Bryan's. Though "Let me explain" might come up in it; I'm not sure.
The Beach Girls (1982).
I think there's a guy that says let me explain. I don't think it's a romcom, though. It's more of a stupid 80's movie that tries very hard to show as much boob as possible. I mean, really, with a tag line like this, "They're the Hottest Things to Hit the Sand... Since the Sun!" you know you're in for a terrible movie that is so bad, it's almost good. It's on Charter OnDemand in the free movies section right now, if you have that and are interested.
